DAMAGE caused to posts at Llandudno Rugby Club is thought to be likely to cost a four-figure sum to repair.

The posts on one of the pitches at the club’s grounds on Bodnant Road were believed to have been knocked over on Tuesday, January 9.

North Wales Police has since been contacted, but given the club does not have closed circuit television (CCTV) in operation on its premises, identifying a suspect has proved difficult.

A statement from the club said the vandalism is likely to have caused “£1,500 to £2,000 worth of damage”.

Robbie Shields, club chairman, added: “They haven’t been replaced yet, but it’s going to have to be up to the club to replace them and get them fabricated.

“We have got plans to put CCTV up, but we obviously need the new fence, which we have planning permission for, up first. We’re just actively getting the funding together now for that.

“Once that’s done, we’re hoping to erect it this year, as well as a 10-metre CCTV column to manage the recreational area, because we’re getting some phone calls from (concerned) residents.

“We’re going to find a solution to put the posts back up, but we’re not going to bother at the moment, with this wind.

“We thought it might have been storm damage, but you can tell it isn’t, because the posts on the other pitches haven’t been damaged.

“We’ve had this before, where kids just shake them, and they snap.”
