A MAN from Llandudno was the delighted winner of a £1,000 prize after he took first place on last week’s series of Channel 4’s Come Dine With Me.

Makeup artist Piers Braybrooke saw off competition from fellow hosts Saffron (Rhos-on-Sea), Jake (Conwy), Joey (Deganwy) and Laura (Denbigh) to be crowned the winner of the show.

It features five people who each host a three-course dinner party for the other contestants at their own home, with the highest-scoring chef winning £1,000.

Filmed in mid-2022, but shown only for the first time last week, Come Dine With Me was, Piers said, “like being on a drunken holiday with friends for a week”.

Piers, who earned a score of 31 out of a possible 40 from his fellow contestants, said: “It was such fun. You don’t get the chance to dress up that often, so I enjoyed doing that.

“At home, I cook the most, so it was nice to have somebody else cook for me for a change.

“I think the marks I got were perfect - I thought (narrator) Dave Lamb would be a lot nastier about us!”

For his own three-course meal, with a “fabulous” dress code, Piers began with a starter of Thai prawn cakes on a bed of smoky sesame noodles.

His main course was ginger salmon with a soy dressing, broccoli, and julienned carrots, and for dessert, he served coconut cream and mandarin jelly with meringue.

He said he treated himself to a trip to Marks & Spencer, where a fair amount of his winnings were spent.

Piers added: “We have a WhatsApp group now, and we want to organise a post-show dinner. Saffron was so funny; my face was very red because of how much I’d been laughing at her!

“I bought some cheap new shoes, rugs, a new pair of spectacles, and I took myself to an eye test.

“A lot of the money went to Marks & Spencer - we normally shop at Asda, but when we have money, we go to Marks & Spencer for a treat!”

Piers also starred on the BBC Two show Take a Hike, where five hikers go head to head to find Britain’s best walks.

He has since began hosting makeup nights in Llandudno with his friend Zara, who he met on the show, to help people feel “more confident and excited about putting makeup on”.

Last week’s North Wales-based episodes of Come Dine With Me are available to watch on All 4.
